L.U.C Black Tie

Horological excellence on the red carpet

For its 20th participation as Official Partner of the Cannes International Film Festival, Chopard is presenting two limited-edition Haute Horlogerie L.U.C watches. The L.U.C Lunar One Black Tie and the L.U.C XPS 1860 Black Tie celebrate the Geneva-based Maison’s passion for film-making and are respectively issued in 8- and 20-piece limited series. These watches bearing the Poinçon de Genève quality hallmark and chronometer certified by the COSC reflect the craftsmanship and precision of exclusive horological creations, dedicated to the male celebrities on La Croisette. They complement the exceptional Red Carpet collection.

20 years of passion and dazzling creations

The love story between Chopard and film-making has been going on for 20 years. In 1998, at the initiative of Chopard co-president Caroline Scheufele, the Maison became Official Partner of the world’s greatest film event: the Cannes Festival. Ever since, artists’ appearances on the red carpet and the legendary ‘climbing the steps’ ritual have been accompanied by dazzling creations from Chopard. To celebrate two decades of passion and glamour, Chopard is presenting two limited-edition platinum L.U.C watches. The intrinsically rare L.U.C Lunar One Red Carpet Edition and the L.U.C XPS 1860 Red Carpet Edition are issued in 8- and 20-piece limited series respectively, adorned with an intense black dial and baguette-cut diamonds. These elegant men’s watches, designed for the male celebrities gracing La Croisette, come in addition to the incredible technical, artisanal and creative challenge taken up by Chopard each year: to develop a new jewellery collection comprising the exact same number of jewellery models as the Festival edition number. In 2017, for the 70th Cannes Festival, the Red Carpet collection therefore comprises 70 one-of-a-kind creations glorifying the beauty of actresses.

L.U.C Lunar One Black Tie – Prestige and technical sophistication

Issued in an eight-piece platinum limited series, this perpetual calendar timepiece with moon phases, orbital moon and large date is a flagship model in the Haute Horlogerie L.U.C collection by Chopard, of which it reflects the key attributes: a sophisticated mechanism, timeless elegance, harmoniously balanced proportions, perfect legibility, along with alternating polished and satin-brushed case finishing. Set with baguette-cut diamonds on the bezel, this gem of watchmaking artisanship clearly displays its multiple functions on a sunburst satin-brushed galvanic black dial. This sunburst finish, centred around the twin-aperture date display, recalls the radiant weather associated with La Croisette, and is lit up by baguette-cut diamonds adorning the hour-markers. The collection’s signature L.U.Chopard logo takes on a golden glow, a nod to the Palme d’or that the Maison has been crafting its workshops for the past 20 years, and echoes the emblem of the Cannes Festival depicted on the transparent case-back. This optimally legible dial is enlivened by Dauphine-type hands, pristine white perpetual calendar indications, a railway track minute circle and an orbital moon appearing against a midnight blue star-studded sky. A watch for modern-day gentlemen with a keen interest in Haute Horlogerie, the L.U.C Lunar One Black Tie, bearing the ‘Poinçon de Genève’ quality hallmark, houses a 355-part mechanical self-winding Calibre 96.13-L, a stellar movement from Chopard Manufacture. This distillation of artisanal expertise and technical sophistication is equipped with a 22-carat gold micro-rotor and a double barrel (Twin® technology) ensuring a 65-hour power reserve. Its particularly high level of finishing meets the demands of the prestigious Geneva label of excellence, and its precision is certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC).

L.U.C XPS 1860 Black Tie – Understated refinement

Epitomising elegant simplicity, the L.U.C XPS 1860 watch appears attired in precious platinum for this 20-piece limited series. Its slim 40 mm-diameter case frames a black gold dial, of which the hand-guilloché centre with its radiating motif also evokes the sunshine of Cannes. The sunburst rim is lit up by baguette-cut hour-markers, swept over by Dauphine-type hands. Endowed with the aesthetic codes of the L.U.C collection, this timepiece also features perfectly proportioned lines and houses an in-house manufactured ultra-thin mechanical self-winding movement. Equipped with a 22-carat micro-rotor and a double barrel (Twin® technology) ensuring 65 hours of operating autonomy, the L.U.C 96.01-L movement measures 3.3 mm thick and displays remarkable precision, certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC). Its artisanal finishing, visible through the exhibition case-back, testify to the extreme degree of craftsmanship distinguishing Haute Horlogerie creations bearing the ‘Poinçon de Genève’ quality hallmark: bridges meticulously chamfered and adorned with Côtes de Genève, along with a chamfered and circular-grained mainplate.

Admirable expressions of style and fine craftsmanship, these two exclusive models radiate a prestigious aura on the Cannes red carpet and will light up La Croisette for this special edition celebrating the 70th edition of the Festival as well as Chopard’s 20th participation as Official Partner.
